Who would have believed it. A local Lansing Everett (from way back in the day) grad, Michigan State University alum, (non-traditional as we all know) would branch off into the world of talk show radio.
Well believe it, “Boomers Rock” has arrived.
As GRT Fitness continues to morph into the model that it is evolving, changing, developing advanced content, the education and advice from Phillipa Burgess (Creative Consulting), last fall has brought the radio world into my life. Through Phillipa’s advice she told me to not be concerned about another body-building show for content to focus on the local aspect of what GRT is all about, the message we are trying to deliver, and the making ourselves different on the crowded shelf as she says.
So I took her advice and started to utilize Linked In and the groups that are associated with it. Frankly I had know idea Linked In even had groups, let alone the joining of them. I thought gathering as many people on Facebook as possible was the way, and it has helped our exposure, that Twitter could be a tool of use, (which it has, even though I am still a total novice), and that posting video blogs with our written content would lead to massive followers.
Uhm, not so fast future Internet mogul, you need to keep working methodically and steadily, and Linked In is very solid. So that’s what I did, hit the groups, beefed up my colleagues on that business social networking site and get to know people.
Getting to people in the Lansing Michigan and mid-Michigan area.
That is how I met Shawn Webb, one of the masterminds behind an all new fitness radio network FTNS. Shawn had been soliciting ideas for this brand new concept on Linked in this all fitness radio network. Not blog talk, this was an entire network of different shows specifically targeting the health and well being of everyone on the Internet. From nutrition, to body building, rowing to personal training, FTNS had a plan.
A conduit of good information for all to become healthier, what a great concept.
Shawn and I talked after I posted a response to his request, (which frankly about three sentences long), immediately hit it off and he asked me if I would consider hosting a show, I was floored. How and what came to my mind, they are in Connecticut, I am in Mid-Michigan, but Shawn assured me that the technology was in place to pull this off, these guys had a great plan and even better idea, I wanted to be a part of it.
So in March the soft launch of the network took place, techinical diffulculties, yes we had them, hard launch in April, still minor technical diffulcties occasionally, but you know what we kept getting better. And now it is May and “Boomers Rock” is pretty darn good and we have the technology reined in, FTNS is improving, the content is getting solid and the whole lineup is great. Can you say just like ESPN of 30 years ago, hey you have to start somewhere.
Future posts are going to revolve around my guests and content, every guest has great information, (for example Dave Lorenz of Travel Michigan), suffice to say stay tuned and check it out, we really are crossing new boundaries and let me tell you the rocket ship called FTNS and one of the engines (“Boomers Rock”) are ready to bring motivation, energy, positive affirmations galore.
The path to greatness starts with one step!
