Shaming is Not Cool!
Dr. Debbie Heiser – Episode 705
What is shame?
Shame is a painful emotion that cuts right to the core of who we are. It involves self-focused attention rather than an outward focus like anger and it is based on a standard that is set – some ideal state.
Shame is a scrutiny of the self. It is feeling unworthy, incompetent, or like a bad person. It is especially painful because it hits you at your core. It isn’t a matter of changing behavior, it is the entire self. Shame makes a person feel “small”, wanting to hide, disappear or to even die.
