Ok everyone and I mean everyone, this blog relates to you. It’s time to get PHYSICAL!
Let me clarify, that statement was meant for grabbing your attention, what I want to talk about, amongst many things, is getting your yearly physical. However first let me digress and give you my impetus for this week’s piece.
Two weeks ago in our local newspaper, in an article that was pulled from the Detroit Free Press, John Gallagher wrote an interesting article pointed directly at future retirees. Now you know I am a boomer, 51 years old, however this information is meant for everyone, because we all will start the thinking of the future at some point, because if you don’t you are really being silly.
Anyway the article was titled “Be Ready to work to Retire”, (recession adds to pressure on retirement plans).
Um, really, now that is earth shattering news!
Let’s get into the thought behind the article, social programs exploding, the aging of America, the boomer generation, etc, etc, etc. Believe me everyone, not just my boomer brothers and sisters, everyone, if it is not clear that you may have to earn more later in life than you need to wake up and smell the coffee. Social programs, don’t count on them.
Times have changed, and to enjoy your hard work after raising that family you better keep your numbers in line, and by that I mean your personal numbers, weight and blood work, (oh yeah and financial).
Therefore the physical angle of this blog, got to have that baseline people.
I want to always be honest as possible with my blogs and share my own personal stories and examples so here you go with trainer T’s (former chubster’s cholesterol numbers)
1. 2005-HDL 64- total cholesterol 222- ratio 3.5 age 46
2. 2006-HDL 52- total cholesterol 237- ratio 4.6
3. 2007-HDL 59- total cholesterol 241- ratio 4.1
4. 2008-paper work missing in action, sorry
5. 2009- HDL 58- total cholesterol 181- ratio 3.1
6. 2010-HDL 68- total cholesterol 193- ratio 2.8 age 51
Ok, so there it is, flat out proof that something drastic changed two years ago, and I can tell you it WAS the fitness and deciding to get the diet in line. It took time and remember my weight in 2007 was around 225 and now I stand close to 175, it is a process, but the physical numbers do not lie my friends.
I have been told that having a 2.8 ratio is outstanding, and that I know is from the dietary changes made in the last year. I plan on sharing the “Whole Food Plan” that I use at another post, todays point is the PHYSICAL.
Get it done, it is crucial, we need to stick together and share this information, because like the article said, we will probably be working longer than expected, (I never plan on the retiring thing, frankly I just call it job shifting) but whatever, we have to stay healthy, and our very first step to change is knowing where we are, and the PHYSICAL gets us the info, do it and do it soon.
Thanks so much for your time and reading,
