Becoming a Senior Olympian
To qualify as a ‘Senior Olympian’ you have to be 50 years or older. Some of these athletes are just the most incredible people ever. Dr. Deb Feltz is one of those “Incredibles”!
Dr. Deborah Feltz is a university distinguished professor of kinesiology at Michigan State University. She is an amazing lady who woman or man is a grinder of an athlete. Deb shares her journey of qualifying for the 2015 National Senior Games Competition which was held in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. As we like to do we discuss the background of our expert guests, and Deb helps us to understand that confidence and self-efficacy are earned, and her stripes have been a long time coming.
Training is hard, winning a coveted qualification slot is sweet and we give Deb credit for her hard earned effort.
To be fair to Deb and to our listeners of this program, at the time of the recording Deb had every intention of participating in the Nationals, however after our time together Deb was kind and thoughtful enough to us to inform Sandy and I that she would not be competing this time(July 2015) due to an issue with her mother. Deb wanted us to know that she did not want to mislead anyone; she has that kind of integrity.
I decided that her story warranted being aired, that training and being a National Qualifier is massive in my book and she deserves to have her story heard.
Please listen as we talk about-
- Her inspirational story
- Coach Johnny Allen
- Masters Athletes
- Title IX
- Aerobic and Anaerobic exercise
- Having more than one goal
- Static and active stretching
- The importance of the ‘warmup’
