I must preface this article with the fact that I had never experienced massage until just recently, and the first of my massages was one of the most relaxing times ever. However I was looking for something a lot more substantial, (deep tissue), and I did not know the way to communicate with the masseuse at that point, I do now.
Being an extreme fitness athlete, trainer, and writer I take my own personal fitness very very seriously. And as I have written in previous articles overuse for the old guy, (me), is always a problem. I have been through the ringer so to speak with overuse, elbow tendinitis, hip, back, plantar fasciitis,(heel bone spur), one thing after another. It seems like I will never learn to dial it down. The biggest issue I have recently been dealing with is a pulled hamstring that I suffered last summer running sprints, basically it sucked and would not improve, and I was trying everything. Everything that is until I had deep tissue massage.
Having met Danielle Hicks (the owner of Blissfull Moments Massage), in a yoga class two weeks ago has been a godsend.
I have had the pleasure, (in a almost to the edge painful sort of way), to have Danielle work on my injured leg the past two weeks, and let me tell you it is a miracle. My leg has not felt this good since, well, a very long time.
Now please let me be clear, deep tissue is just that DEEEEEEEP. It is something that gets down in to the muscle and really works the lesions and tight spots.
Danielle also could tell that do to the injury my entire balance was off, IT band, calves, and your core are affected, so with an injury such as this you could incur other compensation issues, not good.
I am a huge believer in the law of proactive health-care, (I actually made that up), that stretching and exercise and proper nutrition, contribute to a healthy life. Your sleep improves, stress is alleviated, which makes life in general simply awesome. Pain management is something many people deal with, unfortunately I believe that we are way over-medicated, and the self prescribed over the counter drugs just mask the problems. Really you need to get down and DEEEEEP, to the root of the problem.
