Aging is not without its challenges, and I’ve heard from far too many people that they don’t look forward to growing older. Today everything is changed: Social Security and Medicare face deep problems, traditional pensions are almost obsolete, interest rates on saving are pitiful and the 2008 financial meltdown is still relatively fresh and frightful for many. And I’ll leave it to you to insert your own, personal worries about your health.
So what will we do to make growing older with dignity more attractive?
With the right team you can focus on your growth through others accomplishments; this is the whole point of what we do. For example our relationship with Masterpiece Living® and my pal Dr. Roger Landry, utilizing our positive energy and attracting others with like positivity has brought us closer, here are their thoughts.
Is 80 the new 50?
If you work on improving your quality of life, and commit to improving a little bit every day, I believe 80 can be the new 50.
You just need to believe in yourself, and find the right support system.
“Masterpiece Living® is a multi-specialty group who is committed to older adults aging in a better way. How we make that happen is the basis of the strong partnerships we build with like-minded organizations. In addition Masterpiece leads by doing the following-
- We work with leading experts in the field of aging.
- We have a proven track record of success.
- Your journey is our top priority.
- We are continually evolving.
- We are part of something bigger.”

If we are going to live longer than we must invest in skills and stronger healthier bodies we will remain employed, active, happier and self-reliant. Research suggests that we will remain in better health when we delay or eliminate the retirement mindset; we can remain better connected with friends and co-workers as well as remaining physically more active, generate a paycheck and not dip into our savings; building a larger nest egg of not only financial rewards but experiential.
The trends are clearly here, and with a small amount of planning, inspiration and teamwork maximized QOL well past 90 is totally achievable. We must have a plan, and we must think ‘transitional’.
Here is the good news. We’re living longer and, for the most part, healthier, than in the past. Both our mental and physical functioning in later life now exceeds that of our forefathers and foremothers. My own parents, born in 1937 and 1941 faced a life expectancy of somewhere in the neighborhood of 55-65 at birth. They are both now still alive and doing great in their 70’s. Surviving to age 70 was rare in my grandfather’s era, now those days are long gone for us MiddleLiving adults, (45-75) and SuperiorSeniors (76 and up) only time will tell.
I like to think that reaching the age of 80 will be viewed as “the new 50” with centenarians (age 100+) our fastest growing age group embracing the Boomers Rock mentality of the ReFirement Zone and Masterpiece Livings ® believing in Dr. Landry’s four qualities, the physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual, growth and mastering the process of maturation beyond fifty is exceedingly doable.
Our bus is gassed up and we are going on a glorious trip!
We must accept the reality that it’s now much more expensive to retire (whatever that is) than it used to be. If we view this as a challenge and given that living longer has a completely changed dynamic , we can plan better, move more, eat smarter and healthier, love many, and share, a lot!
Clearly our glass is more than half full, the 21st century holds new adventures, experiences, and a radically different perspective on the ability to age with enhanced juice!
The end of retirement is already prompting a global reconsideration of how we think about the life cycle. For economic growth and greater security, we’ll need to find new ways to work to 100+ while investing for the long haul in our health, mental faculties, friends, neighbors and society. Fortunately, with fewer younger workers around, employers will need to keep us on the job.
Think about this-
A baby born today could live to age 150 or beyond, a reality that will drastically alter your perspective about your own, as well as your children’s and grandchildren’s retirements. Leaving a legacy for our grandchildren rather than spending down your hard earned assets in an assisted living facility is not going to work. 90% of all MiddleLiving/SuperiorSeniors want to age in place, and we can make this the norm, not the exception.
Train for a marathon of longevity and win the game of life, together we change the world!
