Getting your mind right, sending that signal to your body, finally thinking to yourself I am going to get rolling, wow, and then POP, the injury occurs and takes us out of our new found enthusiasm.
Sound familiar, it does to me, and I love to get into the endorphin filled high, the problem is if we do not take care of the beginning actions, namely warming up and stretching it will happen.
Then what, let me tell you what, your momentum goes down the tubes, you’re laid up for a while and we are farther behind our training than before, sound familiar. Yes been here, and done this, numerous times, don’t do what I do and over train, rush around and push way to hard, the warm-up stretching portion is your key to success, incorporate and invigorate.
Here is a portion of an article that lays out the science, and after that a link back to my first stretching blog with the attached video.
If you follow the video you can link back to the URL for the articles website, great stuff.
“Warm-up exercises are essential to any workout. Preparing the muscles and joints for more intense activity helps prevent injury, as well as promoting circulation. Warm-up exercises increase the temperature of the body, making the muscles more flexible and receptive to strenuous activity. Most experts even advise that you engage in warm-up exercises before stretching. Warming up should slightly increase the heart rate but not to the level experienced during your workout.”
